844. A newcomer, WELCOME
An iso-hiyo-dori I happened to see at a parking lot of a nearby supermarket, yesterday afternoon.
As the name indicates, I had seen it at sea shores. But here is 15km east from the shore of Tokyo Bay.
On line checking showed that this bird too is one of those recently started living in urban area.
This is the description of Yamashina Institute of Ornithology.

843. BK-117 D-3
An air ambulance at the nearby square.
KHI's BK-117 newest typeAD-3, JA6939B
(MD's no tail-rotar JA6790 ended its 18-year mission last October)
I have been watching BK117's development since the seventies. This latest version looks very beautiful.

842. "MINOLON" debut
Visited Funabasi Andersen Park.
There I tried to find out minomusi as I was curious about its population after the previuis item. I found two at the parking lot, but none inside.
The photo shows one of the two.
Recent decline of its population is said attributed to the parasitic fly coming from the Continent, and not the gardeners' pesticide I suspected
BTW, Recent research shows that the strength of the thread spewed by minomusi greatly exceeds that of spiders which had long been considered the strongest.

("Vantellin Kowa" might be more familiar to us)
This new fiber has already exceeded the intellectual curiosity domain and been put into practical use.
Kowa's brand name of this fiber;
"MINOLON"
I see, I see.
This "MINOLON" has applied to the shaft of tennis racket. It is Yonex's "New EZONE Series" put on the market last year.
Application areas are said very wide, from car and aircraft industries to bullet proof vest, where lightness, strength and flexiblility are required at the same time.

841. Winters with no minomusi
A mejiro visiting my place for mikan.
Some say feeding wild birds is not a good idea. However it is also true that bird food are scarce in the dead of winter.
In the past, there were many minomusi (bagworm) around here, and mejiro skillfully drew out larva inside the mino (bag) and ate them.
While in recent years, that minomusi is not seen at all. The reason must be the insecticide which gardeners spray at the time of tree pruning works.
When I was at middle school, I had kept a mejiro. From time to time, I went to outlying areas and took aomusi (caterpillars) and fed them to him (she?). It was customray that he got excited, and ate them in great pleasure, not even looking at the usual paste-food.
The mejiro in the photo above too must be murmuring "mikan is fine, but minomusi is much more delicious than that".
